Prison Industries Product Reservation
Seventy (70) items have been included in prison manufactured items as per Government Decision No. Bhakhas-1087(2440)/31250/Industry-6, dated 26 August 1987, 2 January 1992 and 7 March 2002.
- Teak wood windows, doors, etc.
- Terrycloth bed sheets and window-door curtains, etc.
- Bandage cloth.
- Iron windows, doors, and similar items.
- Chess pieces for offices and public works department rest houses, etc.
- Candles
- Hosiery items
- Washing powder, washing powder, detergent powder, and cakes.
- Leather industry
- Bakery
As per Government Decision, No. Bhakhas-1088(2512)/Industry-6, dated 2nd January 1992, the following items have been included in prison manufactured items.
- Steel Folding Coats (Plain)
- Steel Folding Coats (crisscross)
- Mosquito nets
- Barack blanket.
As per Government Decision, No. Bhakhas-2002(2975)/Industry-6, dated 7th March 2002, the following items have been included in prison manufactured items.
- Pre-school set: Crayons, Wall charts/pictures etc.
- Kothi: Various sizes.
- Display board: Various sizes.
- Sports equipment
- Utensils: Cast iron/Aluminum/Stainless steel.
Prison Industries
Maharashtra Prison Industry is a correctional institution. The main objective of Maharashtra Prison Industry is to keep the prisoners engaged in various industries and through this, improve and rehabilitate them by imparting them skills.
Maharashtra Prison Industry is spread over a total of 09 prisons in four regional divisions. Out of these, there are 7 central prisons, 1 district prison class-1 and 1 open district prison. Its details are as follows.

The prisoners in the prison are given work both inside and outside the prison. The prisoners work between 8 am to 10.30 am and 11.30 am to 4.30 pm.
The prisoners are trained in various technical and vocational skills. The details are as follows.

About 2200 prisoners are employed in the above mentioned various industries in the prison industry, while some prisoners are employed in prison agriculture, government printing press, emergency department, cleaning, kitchen etc.
To impart training in modern technology, Maharashtra Prison Department has recently adopted the PPP module ‘Jobwork’. Through this, the prisoners will get employment opportunities in the future.
